EDITED TO ADD: Well, I'm a bit disappointed. I wore these on a trip to Glacier National Park. After what I would call easy walks (all flat trails except for one which had a slight up and down but nothing dramatic) the top loops where the laces run through started coming loose. One tore out completely. These were not strenuous hikes. Knocked off a couple of stars for lack of durability. You get what you pay for.__________I ordered a 5-1/2 wide, which is my normal size.Out of the box, I thought these looked like they were going to be too small, but that's probably because I'm used to hiking boots/shoes being bulky. These are not. They fit like a sneaker with a more substantial lug sole. There is plenty of toe room. The insole is removable if you want to use your own custom or prescription orthotics.I like that the tongue is not attached to the uppers at the sides like many hiking boots, which makes it hard for me personally to put boots on. (Lots of titanium hardware in my feet.) These shoes are easy to put on and easy to lace up.There is a bit of flexibility at the ball of the foot so they're easy to walk in and don't feel clunky.I wore them around the house for about an hour with the addition of my ProFoot 3/4 length insoles on top of the regular insoles. I have "problem feet" and it's hard to find shoes that are comfy right out of the box. Feeling nothing out of sorts, I went ahead and wore them to the zoo for a few hours. No problems! I don't think these are waterproof because I can feel cool air coming in through the fabric panels, but my feet didn't get wet walking through slush. There is enough rubber up the sides to keep my feet dry in shallow puddles. I wore them with a regular boot sock. Please excuse the dirty shoes in the pictures, I took the pictures after the zoo trip. :)
